Here at JON BLANCO, we see hats as an investment. It is something that, if taken care of, can last a very long time. In order to maintain your hat, we recommend washing it regularly (at least monthly, but more often if you wear it a lot or do vigorous exercise in it).
Just like washing your clothes, washing your hat removes stains and bacteria.
You can hand wash, clean in the dishwasher or in a regular washing machine.
Our favorite methods are hand washing and using the dishwasher. If hand washing, be sure to use a soft bristle brush and hat cleaner or mild soap such as Dawn Dish soap. However, we tend to find the dishwasher method most effective.
1. Preparation:
• Remove any loose dirt or dust from the cap.
• Place the cap in a hat washing cage to help maintain its shape. If you don’t have a hat washing cage, you can place the cap on the top rack without it, but be cautious as it might lose shape.
We recommend using a this hat washing cage.
2. Dishwasher Setup:
• Place the cap on the top rack of the dishwasher. Ensure it’s securely placed to prevent it from moving around.
• Add a small amount of mild dishwashing detergent. Avoid using any bleach or harsh chemicals.
• Do not place any dishes or other items in the dishwasher to prevent any residue from getting on the cap.
3. Washing:
• Select a gentle cycle with cold or warm water. Avoid using hot water as it can cause the cap to shrink or lose its shape.
• Do not use the drying cycle, as the heat can damage the cap. Opt for air drying instead.
4. Drying:
• After the wash cycle is complete, remove the cap and gently reshape it if necessary.
• Place the cap on a clean, dry towel and let it air dry naturally. Avoid using a dryer or exposing it to direct sunlight.
After taking the hat out of the dishwasher, we recommend inserting a bump cap to maintain the form of hat.
