Jon Blanco was founded out of a necessity for creativity, a passion for fashion and a yearning to make the world a better place. After graduating from university and working full-time for about 6 months, I realized I needed a creative outlet. My day job was nice, but it was technical and at times monotonous. I came home everyday feeling unfulfilled. I tried reading, writing and painting. Although I enjoyed the experiences, it wasn’t what I was looking for. I needed something more engaging, something that would challenge me to learn and apply all I learned in school. I wanted to start a business.
The idea to start a clothing brand initially sprang from difficulty finding local clothing brands that aligned with my style: minimally designed and with a bigger purpose. I searched and searched and failed to find a clothing brand that I would love to wear not just because of the style, but also because of the mission. I began researching what I needed to start a clothing brand. By the end of December 2017, I had settled on my first design and brand name, “Jon Blanco,” a variation of my own name. I also decided I wanted to build my brand on a mission to support environmental and social causes. In addition to this, I wanted the brand to be a conductor of change in the world, specifically in bridging the gap between people of different backgrounds, cultures and languages. Despite the fact that we are the most connected generation ever, there is a real need for unity across the world - unity that looks to improve the world.
Throughout 2018, I worked on building Jon Blanco from an abstract idea to a concrete product. From designing t-shirts and caps to finding manufacturers and printers to building the website, I focused on creating quality products and an authentic brand message. After 12 months of trial and error, I officially launched the brand in January 2019 with Jon Blanco Signature Collection. It was incredible to see my project become a brand and business. So much hard work was invested since idea inception. The first sale, even though it was a friend, felt magical. None of this would have been possible without hard work, persistence, determination. I am also forever grateful for those who have supported me through the highs and lows.
Thank you so much for supporting me in my journey of building Jon Blanco, a minimally designed clothing brand inspired by the world with the ultimate goal of changing the world. We are in this for the long haul and hope to change a lot of lives along the way.
